Lorimor (2025) Invented Language Project for Reinforcing Skills in Phonetics, Phonology, and Morphology
This is a three-part template for an invented language project. The assignment is intended to be used at the end of units in phonetics, phonology, and morphology, respectively, to give students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the relevant concepts and to apply what they have learned. In the first part, students choose and describe their phonetic inventory, using the correct IPA symbols. In the second, they create phonotactic constraints and phonological rules. In the third part, they create inflectional and derivational morphemes, generate an example of allomorphy, and create morpheme-by-morpheme glosses for the items in their lexicon.
