Berry (2026) Reflections on Standard Language and Linguistic Power in the Classroom
This assignment consists of a written reflection essay, to be given after a module covering standard language ideologies and the dynamics of verbal power in the classroom. The students are English Education majors, Elementary Education majors, and linguistics minors. The purpose of the assignment is for students to connect their readings and discussions on linguistic power (and its abuse) in the classroom to their personal experiences, thereby making the lessons more powerful, and to plan for their own future classrooms.
